Connecting Youth to Opportunity: New Report Highlights Voices of Disconnected Young People in Washington, D.C.
We are very pleased to share DCAYA’s new report, Connecting Youth to Opportunity: Better Understanding the Needs of Disconnected Young People in Washington, DC. Executed in partnership with the Raise DC Disconnected Youth Change Network, and with the support of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and the United Way of the National Capital Area, this project reflects the community’s recognition that young people themselves are the best resources for finding solutions to the myriad issues that affect them.
Using a combination of input captured through a city wide survey of 500 current and formerly disconnected young people in the District of Columbia, and targeted focus groups, the findings and recommendations provide youth a true voice in the development of effective policy responses to the issue of youth disconnection from education and the labor market. “It’s time for everyone to care about our young people, regardless of whether they are in school or not,” said Lee Christian Parker, Director of Education Initiatives at The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. “ It is our responsibility to ensure that they succeed and become active participants in our society.”
